Penn State Figure Skating, Skull House Represent Fruitful THON Pairing

Brothers,

My name is Stuart Ferguson and I am currently a brother in my sophomore year at Penn State’s Phi Kappa Sigma.  I reach out to you today on behalf of myself, my Co-THON Chair Travis Bradley, and your other undergraduate brothers to update you on our THON 2018 effort and to encourage any alumni who wish to be involved to do so.  As many of you know, THON is Penn State’s student-run philanthropy dedicated to enhancing the lives of those children affected by pediatric cancer.  We provide emotional and financial support for families and fund critical research in pursuit of a cure.

In the past year our organization has participated in many events in our fight against pediatric cancer. This year we have a partner organization for THON fundraising and for THON weekend itself.  Penn State Figure Skating and Phi Kappa Sigma’s new pairing has been beneficial to both of us, with more people available and dedicated to our cause.  We went canning in New Jersey together early in the year and more recently our fundraisers have included a Coldstone Creamery fundraiser, where we received a portion of all sales while we worked behind the counter, and a Valentine’s Day fundraiser where we sold Valentine’s Day themed gifts for donors to surprise friends or loved ones with. Our last big fundraiser will be held on February 11th, where Figure Skating will perform a showcase followed by a free skate after the performance at Pegula Ice Arena.

This THON weekend, February 16th through 18th, we are excited and proud to call Cheevan Ellis and Johnathan Nate Levin our dancers.  They will dance together with Casey and Sam of Figure Skating, so they will be able to lean on each other for support throughout the weekend.  Also this THON weekend will mark the first time our THON family, the Hawthornes, will be able to attend, as during previous years Jacob was still undergoing treatment.  We are looking forward to welcoming him to State College and showing him and his family a fun and safe weekend!

If you are interested in becoming involved in our THON 2018 effort, you can donate on the DonorDrive link here. Donations by check can be made payable to THON, Four Diamonds, or Penn State Dance Marathon, and sent to the chapter house at 234 East Beaver Ave State College, PA 16801 so that Travis and I can take them into the THON office on campus. All donations are fully tax exempt.  The collection period ends February 17th, during THON weekend.

Questions that you may have can be directed to myself or Travis. We’d love to hear from you.
