“Three upper classmen that were brothers in the house played rugby with me on the Penn State Rugby Club. Erik Chizmar ‘89, who played rugby with us, was my rush chairman, and my good friend from grade school, Jeff Fewlass ‘89, was joining as a freshman as well,” Richard Cassidy ’89 recounts how he came to be a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Penn State.
“Penn State would not have been the same without Skull house,” he admits. “The house was definitely the social highlight of my four years at Penn State. However, it continued to be a social highlight after I graduated. The brotherhood doesn’t end after you graduate. It is a shame that current brothers and students don’t get to experience Penn State like we did back in the day.”
Some of Cassidy’s favorite events? Thursday night parties (which he stresses occurred every single Thursday!); socials with sororities; alumni weekends and reunions; Greek intramurals; holiday parties; Greek Week; Parents’ Weekend; TOGA; SunQueen parties at 5 a.m.; Blues Travelers combine parties; and Queen Bee.
After graduating, Cassidy went into the insurance business, and now owns an insurance agency in Latrobe, Pa. His son is a current junior at Penn State, while his daughter plans to attend next year. In Cassidy’s words, his family “bleeds blue and white!”
Now, he uses Penn State rugby and football to keep connected with the Penn State and Phi Kappa Sigma community.
