John Lapinski ’69 originally joined Skull House to meet people and experience the social scene at Penn State to its fullest, but got much more out of the experience than he could have ever expected. His time as an undergraduate was filled with memories and friends that would last a lifetime.
During his tenure at Penn State, being a brother at Psi Chapter was a privilege that he shared with many great brothers. To him, the house and brothers were a place where he belonged, had diverse friends and could broaden his perspectives without getting lost in the crowd; experiences that have helped him numerous times in his professional life.
He recalls dinner as being one of the crazy, but enjoyable events he endured and regardless of the circumstances, it was always followed by a game of bridge in the living room. Living in the house was something he enjoyed, as he shared a room with a great roommate, Joe Iudicello (Iudy) ’69. They were the only engineer and science majors, so living together allowed them to get their studying done when others sometime weren’t.
John would spend his weekdays hanging out at the HUB when on campus and at the bar across the street for some draft Iron City Beer. During the weekends the Skull house frequently hosted parties, a memory John recollects fondly.
Among his many fond memories, John includes spending beautiful spring days walking around the campus with his girl friend Linda (Chi Omega) after the cold, harsh Happy Valley winters. The one event he would choose to relive however was the “famous or infamous” Skull House Toga Party in the spring. John and his brothers looked forward to this event all year and always had a blast.
Since graduating, John moved to California following the advice of a friend and has become a successful Southern California attorney living in Beverly Hills, having been designated as a “Super Lawyer in Southern California” for Commercial Law and Bankruptcy.
John has been married for close to 28 years to his wife Paige and has two children, Sarah (24) and Brian (21). Along with his wife, John created a scholarship for the Penn State Eberly College of Science for undergraduate research in Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.
