I was shot down and bailed out of my Martin B-26 Bomber sixty years ago on May 28, 2004 and captured by the Germans and became a POW. I was a 19 year old pilot and for the next 11 months was in 4 different prisons. Finally liberated by “”Old Blood & Guts”” George Patton on April 29, 1945. My best wishes to my surviving WWII PSI buddies on this Memorial Day. We sure were lucky.

Last July 2003 I won first place in the Triathlon race of seniors in the 85-89 age group at the Pa. Senior Games held every year at Shippensburg Univ. On November 3, 2003, I had a brain tumor removed at the U-Penn Hospital. So far I am recovering very well, exercising daily, and trying to regain most of my previous good health.

I have enjoyed 11 years of retirement and have gone to Florida for the winter months. During July of 2001, I received from the Army, The Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in Korea from 28 May 1951 to 13 July 1952. It took 50 years to receive it and I am extremely proud of it. I’m sorry I could not attend the 2002 Reunion in June but hope all had a great time.

I think there would be much greater giving if we knew when and how our house got trashed and by whom.

Looking forward to the next World War II P51 reunion. Will enjoy reunions of Stalag Luft III POW in Houston, TX, and 344th bomb group reunion in New Orleans this summer. Have been very busy volunteering at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Ctr and preparing tax returns for VA.

I would like to hear from my old roommate, William B. Anderson, former WWII Marine Corp, former FBI agent, and last I heard, a professor at some small college in Eastern Penn. I went through PSU on the GI bill which paid just enough to pay the house bill. To earn beer money for Doggie Alexander, I sold sandwiches every night at all fifty-two fraternity houses. I almost flunked out doing all this but prided myself in knowing the Greek name and location of every fraternity house on and off campus. My main success as a pledge was being the pledge master when we pledge Dick Schweiker. We had a couple of brothers in the house who knew Dick from high school. When I met him I knew he was a superior person. I had dinner with Dick and Clair a couple of years ago and they looked great!

Really appreciate the work a few good brothers are doing to keep the rest of us in touch. Still waiting for first visitor to Oregon, however, aside from that, we do have Christmas card exchanges with Charlie Daiker and with Bud Goldlawn. Have a great reunion.
